The first half of 2008 was a great 6 months for movies. Films such as Be Kind Rewind, 10,000 B.C., and The Dark Knight were all great features that made January-early July of this year great. I will now highlight the highlights of late July-December.

  • The X-Files: I Want to Believe: I’m not a huge “X-Files” fan, but I’ve seen a few episodes, and it’s pretty decent. This might be a good movie besides that. RELEASE DATE: FRIDAY
  • Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The first non-live action Star Wars film should be good fun for Star Wars fans. RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 15
  • Eagle Eye: The newest Shia LaBouef film is about a man (Shia) innocently framed as a terrorist. It also stars Michelle Monaghan (Mission Impossible: III) and Billy Bob Thornton (The Astronaut Farmer). RELEASE DATE: SEPTMEBER 26
  • City of Ember: I don’t know much about this book that is being turned into a movie, but it looks very interesting. By the way, Bill Murray’s in it! And Tom Hanks co-produces. RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 10
  • W.: Oliver Stone brings us a biopic of current President George W. Bush. Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men) stars as the main character and Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws) is Vice President Dick Cheney. Looks like a very interesting flick. RELEASE DATE: OCTOBER 17
  • Quantam of Solace: The sequel to the very good Casino Royale, this film follows James Bond (Daniel Craig, The Golden Compass) 10 minutes after the end of Royale. Mathieu Almaric (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) is the villain who will have a hard act to follow after Mads Mikkelson performed well in the last film. RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 7
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: I’m just wondering what kind of other stuff they can pull out of the Harry Potter series. The kids from Sorcerer’s Stone have grown up a bit (Radcliffe, aka Harry Potter, is now 18, when he’s supposed to be 16 in the books) and hopefully can be better. RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 21
This isn’t 2008, but I’m psyched for February 6, 2009, when The Pink Panther 2, the sequel to 2006’s The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin (The Jerk) as bumbling Inspector Clouseau.
