Review: “Cabin Fever”

9 05 2008

It ends up that “cabin fever” describes both Jacob’s cabin and the boat’s cabin.

The flashback with Locke is a very interesting one. It shows a character at multiple stages of his life, which has not been done before. It also has multiple characters from past episodes, which is no common.

Um, what else? I am really looking forward to the producers expanding the role of Matthew Abaddon (Lance Reddick). I find him a very interesting character. We also get the reason why Locke considered going to Australia in the first place, which I immediately though of when Abaddon suggested it.

I also like them bringing Richard Alpert back into the mix. He is considered one of the back-up guys to Ben, who considers himself a back-up guy to Jacob. But we are still not sure who Jacob is. When we enter Jacob’s cabin, we see Christian Shepard, nice and cozy, and hanging out with Claire. Huh?

And to move the island?

I like the fact that Sayid is going back to the beach. This sets up the Oceanic Six: Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Sun will be at the beach; Aaron is on the way with Sawyer and Miles; and Hurley is gonna be there soon with Ben and Locke apparently. I would venture to guess that Ben Locke and Hurley go back to the beach to explain the predicament.

Also, I don’t think Hurley will make it past this season. I mean, he’ll get off the island but we won’t see him again. But I laughed out loud when he shared that candy bar with Ben. That was LOL worthy.

Can’t wait for next week’s “There’s No Place Like Home, Pt.1.” Being part 1, there should be a good cliff-hanger.

Cliff-Hanger Rating: 2 Sleepless Nights/7 Sleepless Nights

My iPod Playlist 3A (I think)

6 04 2008
  1. “Say This Sooner (No One Will Ever See Things The Way I Do)” by The Almost-The song with the ridiculously long subtitle is ridiculously good.
  2. “Keeping Me Alive” by The Afters-Awesome song. Completely awesome.
  3. “Turn It On” by Hawk Nelson-A lot like “Bring ‘Em Out” from their previous album, but cooler.
  4. “When You Look Me in the Eyes” by Jonas Brothers-Oh, you caught me. Actually a decent song.
  5. “International Harvester” by Craig Morgan-One of the few country songs I like.

I Think I Might…

17 03 2008

…not post my book. But what I will do is follow the examples of my blog colleagues and write what I think after every LOST episode and every Hurricanes game. Possibly UNC games. Coming first is the Carolina Hurricanes @ Atlanta Thrashers game on Wednesday.Happy trails!

State v. UNC quick

21 02 2008

Earlier today in Algebra, I said UNC 77, State 70. We’ll see what happens.

Commodore v. Corvo

11 02 2008

There are two sides to this debacle. Firstly, Commodore is better defensively than Corvo. But the Hurricanes need a point man on the power play, and Corvo fits the bill.

  •  Hurricanes Value: A-
  • Senators Value: B

Eaves v. Stillman

11 02 2008

Patrick Eaves isn’t the greatest hockey player in the world. He had 32 points last year in 73 games for Ottawa. Cory Stillman isn’t the greatest either. He had 76 points in 72 games last year for Carolina. Hmm…. Stillman is more of a power-play specialist who can do penalty kill. Eaves is a young player who has yet to prove himself.

  •  Potential Value of Trade: B+
  • Present Value: C
  • Senators Value: A

LOST: My Take (Season Preview Part 2)

31 01 2008

I did not watch LOST when it first came on TV. I was, um, 12 and couldn’t stay up that late. But I really got into LOST after watching the last few episodes of Season 3 on abc.com last year. I got Season 1 for Christmas and have been watching Season 2 after finishing Season 1. Here’s my take on LOST. My favorite episode was the “Through the Looking Glass” episode, the finale of Season 3. Jack, who is one of my favorite characeters, has a very interesting flashforward in this episode and Charlie is the good guy and saves the day while drowning. My favorite characters are: Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox), who is the doc and the leader of the group, because ,except for his drinking habits, I admire his courage and bravery and leadership ablilities while on the island. Sayid Jarrah (Naveen Andrews), an ex-member of the Iraqi Republican Guard, because of his toughness and skill, and knowledge. Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan), the bassist for the one-hit wonder band DriveShaft, because of his loyalty to Claire and willingness to accept death to save the rest of the gang. Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) a priest who used to deal drugs, because of his mysteriousness and capability with a stick. Desmond Hume (Henry Ian Cusick), who attempted to sail around the world and shipwrecked on the island, because of his common ending word in a British accent “brotha.” Jack, Sayid, Charlie, Mr. Eko and Desmond are all great characters who have certain qualities that I like and certain ones that I don’t. But in the end, they’re all good guys.   Brotha.

LOST: The Beginning of The End and Onwards

31 01 2008

My favorite fictional show on television is beginning its fourth season on Thursday. It’s the show whose mystery, suspense, and never-ending action captivated audiences all across America. It’s LOST, and Jack and Co. are back for Season 4 with Thursday’s premiere episode, “The Beginning of the End.” For a little recap, Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox), Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilly), James “Sawyer” Ford (Josh Holloway) and most of the gang have just made contact with an offshore freighter. John Locke (Terry O’Reilly) is at odds with Jack, having just killed minor character Naomi, who brought the contact device. Meanwhile, Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Bernard (Sam Anderson), and Sayid (Naveen Andrews) have been captured by a group of Others, mysterious inhabiters of the island before the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815. Ben Linus (Michael Emerson) has been captured by Jack and is warning the doctor to not call the ship. A few years later, Jack meets Kate at an airport and says “We have to go back.” It’s pretty suspenseful. This is the setup for Season 4 of LOST.Body count from show: Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace), Ana Lucia Cortez (Michelle Rodriguez), Libby (Cynthia Watros), Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder), Mr. Eko (Adewale-Akinnuoye Agbaje), Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan), Leslie Arzt (Daniel Roebuck)

The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Masterpiece

24 01 2008

The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything Movie Poster I watched this movie two Mondays ago, and I figured: Hey, why not go see it? I love Veggie Tales, which I have watched for almost my entire life. But I was wondering if they would have the Pirates’ theme song in it, especially the cover by Relient k, my favorite band. What I did get was a great movie. It begins with George, a grape who has trouble connecting with his kids, Sedgewick, a vegetable that I couldn’t figure who has a problem with laziness so he built a motorized serving machine, and Elliot, a cucumber who has a list of things that he is scared of, including wicker furniture. These three chums work at a diner-theatre as “cabin boys” while aspiring to be in the stage production. They try out for the show but fail miserably. 200 years earlier, a prince named Alexander is captured by the pirate Robert the Terrible. His sister, the princess Eloise, activates her father’s invention that searches for heroes to save her brother. Almost in a second, George, Sedgewick, and Elliot, still in their tryout costumes, are transported back to the 18th century and picked up by Eloise and her butler Willory. The quintet of veggies set out on an adventure to rescue Alexander. This movie is currently in theaters. For more info, check www.veggiepirates.com

All-Star Analysis: Pt.1-West

11 01 2008

The Western Conference All-Stars have been announced. Here is my personal look at each All-Star.

  1. Manny Legace-Goalie-St. Louis: A worthy choice for his first all-star game. He probably only got in because chosen starter Roberto Luongo is skipping the game. His 2.06 GAA is outstanding though.
  2. Evgeni Nabokov-Goalie-San Jose: Another good selection. He has played 41 games this year, which is all of the Sharks’ games this year. His 2.01 GAA is very good and helps him get his 2nd All-Star appearance.
  3. Chris Osgood-Goalie-Detroit: Taking over for the injured Dominik Hasek, Osgood has imprssed, obtaining a 19-2-1 record with a league-leading 1.68 GAA.
  4. Nicklas Lidstrom-Defenseman-Detroit: The most experienced All-Star on the Western team (1oth appearance), Lidstrom has 40 points in 44 games.
  5. Dion Phaneuf-D-man-Calgary: Voted in by the fans along with Lidstrom, Phaneuf’s hard hitting has made him a fan favorite. His 29 points in 44 games doesn’t hurt either.
  6. Ed Jovanovski-D-man-Phoenix: The lone Coyote on the team, Jovanovski went from playoff team Vancouver to cellar-owner Phoenix. He managed 25 points in 40 games for the ‘Yotes to earn his 5th All-Star appearance.
  7. Duncan Keith-D-man-Chicago: Who? Keith is +14 on the Blackhawks, the 2nd-worst team in the West.
  8. Chris Pronger-D-man-Anaheim: The stalwart on the blueline leads All-Star d-men with 9 goals.
  9. Sergei Zubov-D-man-Dallas: One of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL, Zubov makes a well-deserved 4th appearance in the All-Star Game.
  10. Henrik Zetterberg-Forward-Detroit: His 54 points is 2nd in the West to fellow All-Star Jarome Iginla’s 60.
  11. Pavel Datsyuk-Forward-Detroit: Another solid player for the NHL-best Detroit. His second All-Star Game, as a starter voted by the fans, is well-deserved because of his great playmaking skills (36 assists in 44 games)
  12. Jarome Iginla-Forward-Calgary: Captain Calgary leads the Western Conference in points (60) and is 3rd in the NHL.
  13. Jason Arnott-Forward-Nashville: The lone Predator All-Star and captain in Nashville, Arnott has 36 points this season in 41 games.
  14. Marian Gaborik-Forward-Minnesota: The oft-injured Slovakian speedster has 21 goals in 37 games this year.
  15. Ryan Getzlaf-Forward-Anaheim: The Ducks’ leading scorer (48 points in 44 games) is one of the bigger little names to make the team.
  16. Shawn Horcoff-Forward-Edmonton: Horcoff experienced the ‘05-’06 Cup run and last year’s bad season. His 39 points are good enough to earn him his first All-Star appearance.
  17. Anze Kopitar-Forward-Los Angeles: The Slovenian sophmore is having a good season (40 points in 44 games) for the dismal Kings.
  18. Rick Nash-Forward-Columbus: His 21 goals in 41 games is good enough to be the only Blue Jacket on the team.
  19. Henrik Sedin-Forward-Vancouver: One of the famous (or infamous) Sedin twins, his 35 assists in 42 games is probably more a factor than his 7 goals.
  20. Paul Statsny-Forward-Colorado: He had a breakout month in October and hasn’t slowed down, with 44 points in 43 games.
  21. Joe Thornton-Forward-San Jose: Another great season for former MVP Thornton (46 points in 41 games).
There we go. All stats are as of January 10th, 2008.
